In Grade 5 we are working on being the best citizens we can be.
This means that we always reflect on our actions and how these may affect others.
We did an activity in order to represent what happens to our heart when we hear someone say or do something that hurts us. We discussed what things are hurtful and how these affect us. This gave us room to reflect on how others feel when we say or do hurtful things to them.
Then we scrunched our hearts each time we said something hurtful.
After this we reflected on those things that make us feel loved, happy and fulfilled.
We repeated these things to our hearts while trying to stretch them out to be perfectly flat, returning to the shape we began with.
It became clear to us that although we may apologise for hurting others, it is impossible to erase those horrible things we say or do. They stay tattooed on our hearts.
We learnt that we must think before saying or doing hurtful things if we want to keep our hearts loved and lovely.
