In Art, the Grade 4 students have been celebrating the learning that they have acquired during the year. In order to demonstrate this learning, they have been working diligently, creating their own mandalas.
The proposal was to create a mandala design, using the concepts of symmetry and geometry, that were being discussed in Math. Students also had to focus on the skills of observation and patience. This was difficult for those who are accustomed to accomplishing activities quickly, however, each student managed to create a work of art that represents their true abilities.
Each mandala was made with care and thoughtfulness, using the artistic skills developed in Art. This included using watercolour paints, blending colours with oil pastels, and observing the different colours that markers leave on the brown paper used.
We learnt to breathe deeply and observe our work, taking care with each mark that we made.
